Fun Facts About Shea Butter(Orì)

Shea butter is super moisturising and hydrating thanks to its high content of fatty acids which lock in moisture and help the skin hold on to it for longer. It’s also rich in vitamins, A, B, C, D, E and F, all of which help to keep skin healthy and are intensively moisturising.

Fun facts about shea butter:

  • Cleopatra apparently loved shea butter. There is a mention of caravans of clay jars filled with shea butter for her use. It’s also said that this luxurious ingredient was beloved by the Queen of Sheba and Nefertiti. So, you’re in good company!
  • Shea butter is ivory in colour and is made by crushing and boiling the nuts from the shea tree.
  • The shea tree grows in 19 African countries, in the Savannah’s of west and central Africa.
  • Untreated shea butter should have a subtle yet pleasant aroma. If your baby suffers with eczema, you’ll know straight away that highly perfumed products are often a trigger for flare-up. Our high-quality shea butter has a mild scent that is a little bit nutty / earthy, guaranteed to please those with sensitive skin and noses!
  • Shea butter offers natural UV protection (it is SPF 6) but it is NOT a substitute for sunscreen. We’d still always recommend using your own sunscreen.
  • It contains 60% fat, making it highly emollient – perfect for sensitive skin or those with eczema.
  • Shea butter can also be used to reduce inflammation. A 2010 study found that due to its cinnamic acid and other natural properties, shea butter was anti-inflammatory. One compound in particular, lupeol cinnamate, was found to reduce skin inflammation and even potentially help avoid skin mutations. This also makes it beneficial for some people with acne.
  • The antioxidant activity of certain active compounds in shea butter, such as linolenic and linoleic acid can help to prevent oxidative stress in the skin, which can reduce the likelihood of wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of premature aging.

Top5 Edibles For A Healthy You

No food can make you look younger and feel healthier overnight. But over time, getting the right nutrients can make a difference. Here's the scoop on five superfoods that can help you lose weight, boost your heart health and give your skin a healthy glow.

1. WALNUTS
It's true, walnuts are high in calories. But, they're also soaring in nutrients. Walnuts have more ALA, the heart-healthy omega-3 found in plants, than any other plant food. They're also high in protein and fiber, both of which can help you lose weight. Recently researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found another surprising way walnuts can help you shed pounds: by activating a part of the brain that helps control cravings. Want healthy, younger-looking skin? Walnuts can help there, too-their antioxidants slow aging, while vitamin E, zinc and selenium help nourish and protect.

2. OATS
Talk about a superfood! Compared to other whole grains, oats came out on top for lowering cholesterol, according to a 2015 review of more than 20 studies. Other research shows the feel-full fiber in whole-grain oats can help you eat less and lose weight; in one study, eating oats helped people trim their waists and lose overall body fat. And oats don't stop there-they help keep your skin healthy, too, with nutrients like copper, zinc and niacin. In fact, you don't even have to eat oats to gain their skin-calming benefits: People have used forms of oats for centuries as a topical treatment for dry, rough and itchy skin.

3. AVOCADOS
Did you know that people who eat avocados tend to be healthier than those who don't? That's according to a 2013 study (funded by the Hass Avocado Board) of more than 17,000 people. The researchers found that the avocado eaters weighed less, had less belly fat and showed a much lower risk of metabolic syndrome-a group of symptoms that can lead to diabetes and heart disease-compared to the non-avocado fans. They also tended to eat more fruits and vegetables overall. We're betting they even had great skin: avocados are packed with vitamins C, E and K, all important for skin health. Plus, the healthy fat in avocados may help prevent wrinkles, while other nutrients help reduce sun damage.

4. BLUEBERRIES
These tasty little gems are higher in antioxidants than nearly any other food, delivering powerful heart-healthy benefits. In a Harvard study of more than 93,000 women, eating three servings of blueberries and strawberries each week was associated with cutting heart attack risk by more than 30 percent. And because antioxidants help prevent and slow sun damage, eating blueberries is a way to help your skin look younger, too. One more big blueberry perk: their fiber helps you feel full, so you eat less, potentially losing weight.

5. WILD SALMON
You've probably heard for years that when it comes to health benefits, salmon-and wild salmon in particular-is one fantastic fish. Here's one reason why: salmon contains astaxanthin, a type of antioxidant that helps prevent heart disease by lowering cholesterol. Astaxanthin may be an anti-aging weapon, too-one 2014 study suggests it can help fight sun damage and make skin more supple. In another study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers found that people who ate omega-3-rich fish (such as salmon) each week reduced the development of precancerous skin lesions by almost 30 percent. Salmon can help with weight loss as well-studies suggest their omega-3s can help reduce belly fat.

Dbanj's Former Manager Speaks on Rape Allegation

Frank Amudo, Dbanj's former manager, speaks on the alleged rape case involving Model Seyitan and Singer Dbanj. Different accusations have been pointed at Frank Amudo since the allegation got out in June.

In a released video on Social Media, the ex-manager said Seyitan informed him of the alleged rape incident when it happened. Giving a recap of the incident, he said:

"Upon my arrival in Accra, Seyitan called, saying that D’banj gained access into her hotel room at Glee Hotel by 3 am and raped her. I was shocked at this allegation because I wondered how D’banj gained access into this room knowing full well that I did not disclose my room number to him and he was not lodged at the hotel. I called Seyitan back to ask why she was given $100 and why she would claim she was raped by D’banj and she angrily replied in a series of voice notes reiterating the accusation and that she was told not to tell me because they assumed she was my girlfriend. She said she had left everything in God’s hands and made it clear that she was not interested in taking the matter to the public. I chose not to discuss this matter with D’banj because he and his wife were also in Accra as this was supposed to be a healing trip to recover from the loss of their son. I thought it was insensitive to discuss such an issue on this trip, as Seyitan had even mentioned that she didn’t want the matter escalated further."

He further said he was pushed to say his side of the story because of the constant calls he was getting and allegations stating that he pushed Seyitan to take up the case because he ended his work relationship with Dbanj on a bad note. In his words:

"Most confounding was that Kemi Olunloyo, who never called me to hear my side of the narration, claimed that I was in the habit of arranging girls for artistes and that I was being ungrateful to D’banj by setting him up in collusion with Seyitan. I find this act of defamation very unscrupulous, malicious, mischievous, and very damaging to my name and brand. My legal team has initiated moves to earnestly seek redress. The last, of course, has not been heard of this."

Let's Help You Identify Your Skin Type

There are different types of skin, which requires different method of treatment. Everyone's skin is normal to them, but in order to care for diverse skin types, we often group people into some skin categories. Ascertaining your skin type is an important first step in knowing how to treat your skin, what products to use, and how to have perfect skin.

How to determine Your Skin Type

Step 1
Wash your face to remove make-up. Wash with a gentle cleanser and pat dry. This cleans away oils and dirt that may have accumulated during your day, giving your skin a fresh start.  Do not over wash though.

Step 2
Wait for 30mins. During this time, your skin should return to its natural state, the characteristics of which will determine your skin type. Act normally and don't touch your face.

Step 3
Dab your face with a tissue. Pay attention to the 'T-zone" area of your forehead and nose.

Step 4
Skin falls into four types-
Normal;
Oily;
dry;
Combination.

Normal skin shows neither oil nor flaking skin. It should feel supple and smooth. If you have it, consider yourself lucky. Normal skin is not too dry, not too oily. It has no or few imperfections, no severe sensitivity, barely visible pores, a radiant complexion.

Oily skin is characterized by the grease on the tissue. It is also common for a person with oily skin to have large pores and a shine, black heads, pimples or other blemishes.

Dry skin may feel taut or show flakes of dead skin. It is associated with small pores. Almost visible pores, dull, rough complexion, red patches, less elasticity and more visible lines. When expose to drying factors, skin can crack, peel or become itchy, irritated or inflamed. If your skin is dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially on the  backs of your hands, arms and legs. Moisturizing is important for this skin type.

Combination skin is most common. It exhibits traits of all three of the above skin types. Usually, the skin is oily in the T-zone and normal to dry elsewhere.

In addition,
Aged skin: This type of skin is found majorly on the elder's body mostly dry, with lines and wrinkles with loss of moisture.

Tips For A Healthy Skin

Don't have time for intensive skin care? You can still pamper yourself by acing the basics. Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help delay natural aging and prevent various skin problems. Get started with these five no-nonsense tips.

1. Protect yourself from the sun

One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems — as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.

For the most complete sun protection:

  • Use sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or perspiring.
  • Seek shade. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.
  • Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats. Also consider laundry additives, which give clothing an additional layer of ultraviolet protection for a certain number of washings, or special sun-protective clothing — which is specifically designed to block ultraviolet rays.

2. Don't smoke

Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow and makes skin paler. This also depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health.

Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — can contribute to wrinkles.

In addition, smoking increases your risk of squamous cell skin cancer. If you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit. Ask your doctor for tips or treatments to help you stop smoking.

3. Treat your skin gently

Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. To keep it gentle:

  • Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.
  • Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers.
  • Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
  • Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.
  • Moisturize dry skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.

4. Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The association between diet and acne isn't clear — but some research suggests that a diet rich in fish oil or fish oil supplements and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin. Drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin hydrated.

5. Manage stress

Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin — and a healthy state of mind — take steps to manage your stress. Get enough sleep, set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy. The results might be more dramatic than you expect.

Everything In Between With Will And Jada Pinkett Smith And Her Affair With August Alsina

The Smiths are no stranger to open relationship scandal. On Tuesday, R&B singer August Alsina instigated a Twitter storm when he confessed to an alleged affair with Jada Pinkett Smith, saying in an interview on the breakfast club that he was once in-love with the actress and Red Table Talk co-host.

“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her," he told host Angela Yee. "I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it—so much so to the point that I can die right now and be okay with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”

Alsina also alleged that Jada's husband of 23years, Will Smith, was aware of the supposed relationship.

“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership," Alsina said. "He gave me his blessing."

Jada's representatives issued a statement through page six that his words were “absolutely not true,” but that didn't stop fans from airing out their thoughts. Specifically, they reflected on years of rumors of an open relationship between Jada and Will, and past rumors of a romantic connection between the RTT star and the singer.

However, the open relationship rumors were previously debunked. Though Will and Jadahave been incredibly forthcoming about the ups and downs of their relationship in past years, both stars have denied being in an open relationship.

Castor Oil For Hair Growth

Castor oil is most commonly used as a laxative. But castor oil’s natural antiviral and antimicrobial properties make it a popular treatment for skin problems known as dermatosis as well as fungal infections. It’s also used for hair growth.

Castor oil for longer locks

Some people use castor oil to grow longer hair or to treat hair loss, also known as alopecia. It’s marketed as a treatment for dry scalp and other scalp conditions as well.

While the average human hair follicle grows just over a centimeter a month, some claim anecdotally that using castor oil once a month can spur growth three to five times the normal rate. There is no clinical evidence to support this, however.

If you still want to try castor oil on your hair, here’s a safe, easy at-home method. You’ll need the following supplies:

  • castor oil
  • an old T-shirt
  • rubber gloves
  • applicator brush
  • comb
  • shower cap

APPLICATION

  1. Put on the old T-shirt to prevent staining your clothes.
  2. Section off your hair.
  3. Put on the rubber gloves and begin applying the castor oil to your scalp using the applicator brush. Massage the oil into your scalp.
  4. Apply castor oil to the rest of your hair, using the comb to ensure even coverage. It doesn’t need to be soaked through with oil, but all of your hair should be moist.
  5. Once applied, put the shower cap on, ensuring all hair is tucked inside.
  6. Clean up any oil drippings with the towel.
  7. Leave the shower cap on for at least two hours. This gives the oil enough time to penetrate the scalp, hair follicles, and hair shaft.
  8. After two hours, wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

Johnson&Johnson to Stop Selling Skin Whitening Cream

On Friday, Johnson & Johnson announced it will cease production on two lines of skin-lightening products from Neutrogena and Clean & Clear that are popular overseas. The move comes in the wake of a recent resurgence in the Black Lives Matter movement, a time of reckoning for many brands and companies with racially insensitive ties.

Neutrogena Fine Fairness and Clear Fairness by Clean & Clear included products advertised as dark-spot reducers to consumers in Asia and the Middle East. (The products in question were not distributed in the U.S.) "Conversations over the past few weeks highlighted that some product names or claims on our Neutrogena and Clean & Clear dark-spot reducer products represent fairness or white as better than your own unique skin tone," the company said in a statement, via The New York Times. "This was never our intention — healthy skin is beautiful skin." Per the Times, Johnson & Johnson says these products will stop being produced, shipped, or linked to. However, they will remain on shelves physically until stock runs out.

While the removal of skin lightening products from Johnson & Johnson is a step forward, it's far from the only corporation to sell such products. J&J is the only brand to remove skin lightening products, with other brands hopefully following suit.

The 43-year-old musician-turned-designer revealed his appointment to Mowalola Ogunlesi as the official design director of Yeezy Gap. Ogunlesi, who moved from Lagos, Nigeria to England at the age of 12, graduated from Central Saint Martins just three years ago. She has since gone on to dress style icons like Solange Knowles, and is most famously responsible for Naomi Campbell's white halterneck gown, which featured a symbolic gunshot wound, that she wore this past London Fashion Week.
